Previous minutes
Sebastian: welcomes the participants of the call
... showing the minutes
... reviewing the agenda of today
... something else?
... reviewing again the minutes
McCool: WISHI next week will be take place
Sebastian: have some conflicts can someone can host it?
McCool: let's discuss this in other call
Sebastian: is there some problems with the minutes?
<kaz> [10]June-4
[10] https://www.w3.org/2020/06/04-wot-marketing-minutes.html
Sebastian: minutes approved
explained video
<kaz> [11]script
[11] https://github.com/w3c/wot-marketing/blob/master/material/wot_explainer_notes.md
Sebastian: thanks a lot, Michael. for the improvements.
<kaz> [12]video style
[12] https://showrealmotion.streamfizz.live/
Sebastian: in the readme now there are comments form Michael
McCool: we need concrete suggestion to change the script
... i.e. actual PR
... I already suggested a couple of changes
... for example avoid bias around gender and race
... gender is quite tricky. pronouns fault
... I proposed to use they and their, but sometimes it gets odd
... try to use developer team instead of developer
... also I understand that Joe was used to identify with the
main character but I rather change it
... we can avoid race issues using not humans
... our job is to make the script right and specify the
animator that the character should be unbias in regard to
gender and race
... I also would avoid names completely.
... We need also to consistent with names. ie. I'd use
winegrower
Sebastian: I think we have a great starting point now
... let's iterate over this
McCool: next step create new md file which finalize the script
... get it "soonish"
... the final document will not contain comments only the
script
Sebastian: unfortunately next week I am very busy... and I
cannot work on this
McCool: I volunteer to work on this document and create the
final script
... anyway if anybody has some problem please comment on the
draft or discuss it now
... basically we can go trough each pieces and note our
comments now
Sebastian: show the start of the script
McCool: use winemaker instead of winegrower
Sebastian: ok to change it. does anybody has some object?
... second scene
McCool: would avoid pronouns
... suggesting minor changes
Sebastian: should be accept Michael suggestion?
... ok let's accept it
McCool: scene 2 were broken in two scenes
... I suggest two different visuals
... on scene2b we can state clearly why we need weather data
... skip scene 3
... I'll fix scene3 text
... scene 4 spoken text is good. just minor fixes
... Also I removed relative pronouns. they are confusing for
some people
Sebastian: scene 5
McCool: scene 5 has issues with gender. I am proposing neutral
pronouns
... there's also another problem. It is quite vague and maybe a
little bit harsh
Sebastian: reading lagally comment
McCool: we need a more concrete suggestion from oracle
Sebastian: scene 6
McCool: removed Googling and state directly how WoT is
pronounced
... also linking back to the winemaker problem
Sebastian: we should include IoT developers who can use all Web
technologies with WoT
... is it ok to put only one kind of developers?
McCool: my opinion is that having a focused audience is better
... the entire script is focused on web developers
... maybe can we mention IoT devs at the end
Sebastian: I do not have any strong opinion on that.. let's
leave it like it is
McCool: update staging. add two screens. one with usual tools
and other domains
... which tools we should include?
... js, nodejs, html
Ege: nodeRed
... vue, react an so on
McCool: create a list of the most known
Cristiano: typescript?
McCool: why not
Sebastian: what about WebAssembly?
McCool: maybe better not here
Kaz: what about mentioning other popular languages? i.e. python
McCool: rather not now...
Kaz: maybe a character could mention pyhton for web apps in
contrast with node-red, etc., for WoT?
McCool: it is important but is not the right place to put it
Ege: for the logos don't forget JSON
McCool: good point
Sebastian: adding animating domains
Sebastian: need to leave now...
Kaz: before closing the call, I wanted to repeat that pronoun
issues is very important. Note W3C is keen on CEPC and
diversity these days
Sebastian: McCool, can you take over?
... I have to go
McCool: showing the script
... please read the text and speak up if something is off
... otherwise it is assumed accepted
... reading the script
... scene 10 was changed
... just add a check for each question
Ege: maybe the questions are too long and could take the whole
screen
... maybe we can change the questions to statements
McCool: we can simplify the text
... or we can focus in each question and then minimize
Ege: I think it will be to quick... people will not have time
to read
McCool: let's try to simplify the points
Ege: I suggest to remove how to "access data or function" is
too difficult
... I like more interaction than function. function is more
related to actual code
McCool: we can say these question verbally
... moving last text of scene 12 to scene 13
... any objections?
<inserted> (none)
McCool: if any comments/suggestions make a PR
Next week
McCool: should we cancel next week
... ok let's cancel it
AOB?
Kaz: what about video style?
McCool: It is not important in my opinion, as long as they
follow our script and staging rules
Ege: using animals it might be fine, as long as they look good
McCool: I'd like a nice logo like animation
Kaz: I agree your direction in general
Cristiano: how the video will be shared?
McCool: I think it will hosted by W3C and then shared in other
platforms
<kaz> [13]fyi, my slides include how to deal with videos on
