Ø     an uniform structure, consisting of a string identifying the

Ø     statistic and a simple-typed value.

so the ‘object type’ field for each report seems necessary. 

 

For other metrics – I would like to point to RFC 3611 which already defined the extended reports for RTP (RTP XR). This work is now revised and extended by the XRBLOCK WG in the IETF, and consistency between the statistics metrics definitions and re-usage seems to be a very desirable goal.

This is the document that tries to register some actual statistics that one can poll using the statistics interface, completing the circle.

The work with this has me roughly convinced that there needs to be a "object type" field for each statistics report - this could be a field at the same level as the "timestamp" field that is currently in there. Thoughts?

Suggestions for more stats (WITH definitions that can be pointed to, AND a description of why they are useful) most welcome!
