Doesn't KEYPROV which you once co-chaired give some ideas what we are facing? Both of the leading vendors developed their own proprietary miiddleware and kept the smart card interfaces under wrappers. DSKPP failed epically. I.e. the core problem is greed, stupidity and a complete lack of foresight. Therefore all these guys who are today flocking at FIDO alliance is actually there mostly due to *fear* that something would disrupt their business.
