FYI, I just spoke with Brian LaMacchia. He also objects to removing the NIST curves. I know of no one at Microsoft in favor of doing this, as it would remove useful and already-standard functionality. I’d missed his earlier message in which he argued that WebCrypto may not be well accepted if we don’t also include some non-NIST curves. I’ll defer to Brian and the working group on that. If the CRFG process is timely, all of this may be a non-issue soon. That’s obviously all of our hope. But we should take the option to ship WebCrypto without the NIST curves off of the table.
