Here is a description of what we now have:

For the testing server w3c-test.org:
- available at http://www.w3c-test.org/, http://www1.w3c-test.org/,
http://www2.w3c-test.org/, and https://www.w3c-test.org/. Each address
runs on the same underlying copy. test.w3.org will become a redirect to
w3c-test.org soon.
- can run PHP scripts. If you need an script language support, you can
always ask but I don't think we'll make it a priority.
Note that the replication of php scripts isn't automatic but goes
through a short internal review process. Several individuals within the
staff can do the approval, including Dominique and myself.
- cannot be directly accessed to. Files are pulled from the mercurial
repositories (dvcs.w3.org).

Besides the redirect, I' m not aware of any pending improvement requests
for w3c-test.org.

For the mercurial server dvcs.w3.org:
- Available at https://dvcs.w3.org/hg/
- To create a new repository, see
 http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-tools/2010AprJun/0011.html
- To access the repository, see the same message above.
- Indicate that the content of the repository needs to be replicated to
w3c-test.org in your request message.

We're missing two features on dvcs:
- prevent duplicated heads
- proper identity attribution
I don't have an ETA on those at the moment.

For large media files, like videos, I recommend using media.w3.org. I
did set up a few video files as examples at
 http://media.w3.org/2011/01/video/
 http://media.w3.org/2011/01/audio/
 http://media.w3.org/2010/05/video/
 http://media.w3.org/2010/05/video/
 http://media.w3.org/2010/05/sound/
 http://media.w3.org/2010/05/bunny/
 http://media.w3.org/2010/05/sintel/

Not all of them are available in multiple formats. Help is always
welcome for the conversion.
