Re: New Task Force Proposal on Manageable Affordances

Dear all,

As part of the Manageable Affordances Task Force [1], we are now collecting scenarios for long-running actions in hypermedia environments.

Examples of long-running actions include long-lasting movements (e.g., moving a robotic arm, tilting a camera), the dimming of a light, or any other action that would take a significant amount of time to complete.

We are looking for scenarios that can elicit requirements for defining the lifecycle of long-running actions. Once we outline the requirements, we will then be looking for hypermedia-based mechanisms that allow software agents to discover and exploit long-running actions. This topic is relevant to the new charter of the Web of Things (WoT) Working Group, but the scope of this task force goes beyond the WoT — and we are especially interested to discover use cases for long-running actions in other areas.

Anyone is welcomed to submit a scenario via GitHub by opening an issue using the predefined template: https://github.com/w3c-cg/webagents/issues/new/choose

We will discuss all submitted scenarios in the next regular meeting on Feb. 15 (see [2] for the meeting details).

Best wishes,
Andrei

We propose to start with the topic of Manageable Affordances, which is already relevant to the activity of the W3C WoT Working Group. You can find the proposal at https://github.com/w3c-cg/webagents/pull/19 where you can comment on the Pull Request. Please express your interest via GitHub reactions (thumbs up etc.), comments or by replying to this email.
