Definition of state?

Hi Folks,

Bruce raised an issue because he is worried that focus-appearance is re-defining 'state', impacting the meaning used in 4.1.2 name/role/value.

I'm struggling to see the problem, and we might be talking past each other. Can anyone else weigh in, see if there's an issue to solve?
