I will not be able to attend the Feb 28, 2006 team b meeting due to unexpected business travel. Here are the updates on my items. I reviewed the comments and updated the following three techniques. I requested input from the folks who had commented on these techniques in the surveys and all agreed that the updated technique is now fine. Failure due to providing text alternatives that include words that appear in a text image, but fail to include information that is conveyed by the color of certain words in the image [1] Failure due to using CSS to create variations in presentation of text that conveys information without also using structure. [2] Failure due to identifying content only by its shape or location [3] I also see some edits by Loretta. I believe these are now "Ready for XML". I also worked on two of the CSS techniques (one is a failure) for 1.3.5. These techniques were modified from an existing technique which had both a failure and a pass example. Please review and determine if these are ready for survey. I don't think the Absolute Positioning technique belongs under 1.3.5 since the example doesn't really deal with source code order but more with structure. I don't have any ideas of how to make this example deal more with reading order, thus, I think it probably belongs in 1.3.1. Also, this example is not using the dt and dd elements in the proper manner so perhaps it is not something we want to recommend? I'm not really sure this is good coding practice - I just took the existing technique and adapted it to our format. I'll let the rest of the team decide if we want to keep this or not. Absolute positioning based on structural markup. [4] Failure due to positioning information with CSS so that the visual reading order or the programmatically determined reading order does not convey the meaning of the content. [5] Also, please review Creating elements when creating new content. [6] and determine if it is ready for survey. thanks, -becky [1] http://trace.wisc.edu/wcag_wiki/index.php?title=Failure_due_to_having_a_text_alternative_that_does_not_include_information_that_is_conveyed_by_color_in_the_image [2] http://trace.wisc.edu/wcag_wiki/index.php?title=Failure_due_to_using_CSS_to_create_variations_in_presentation_of_text_that_conveys_information_without_also_using_structure [3] http://trace.wisc.edu/wcag_wiki/index.php?title=Failure_due_to_identifying_content_only_by_its_shape_or_location [4] http://trace.wisc.edu/wcag_wiki/index.php?title=Absolute_positioning_based_on_structural_markup [5] http://trace.wisc.edu/wcag_wiki/index.php?title=Failure_due_to_positioning_information_with_CSS_so_that_the_visual_reading_order_or_the_programmatically_determined_reading_order_does_not_convey_the_meaning_of_the_content [6] http://trace.wisc.edu/wcag_wiki/index.php?title=Creating_elements_when_creating_new_content Becky Gibson Web Accessibility Architect IBM Emerging Internet Technologies 5 Technology Park Drive Westford, MA 01886 Voice: 978 399-6101; t/l 333-6101 Email: gibsonb@us.ibm.com
