RE: programmatically determined

are you talking about DRM?

i dont understand your comment.

If the person has the book in front of them and can read it visually - they
should be able to programmatically access the user interface componetnts.

not sure what you are saying. can you say again. tell us what your worry
is.

thanks

If the content is not free or publicly available, then the data associated
with the content accessibility for software use would not need to be free
and publicly available either. If the content is free and available to the
public, then the data should be available freely and publicly. This is a
show stopper if not addressed. -Alex

john
the phrase "user-agent-supported" is an adjective along with publicly
documented

so if i rearranged the words as you suggest - this and other sentences fall
apart.

this one becomes determined by software from data provided in a publicly
documented and manner supported by user-agents

I hadn't remembered quite such significant edits, but I think it's OK. I'd
like to suggst a slight editorial tweak for readability:

change "user agent supported manner" to "manner supported by user agents" in
the text of the definition.

Change the Note to read "Supported by user agents means ..."

These do not affect the substance of either the definition or the note. But
"user agent supported" is hard to read and understand.

is this what we came up with for PD today?

tried to pull it together from our discussion

removed standard
removed free

programmatically determined

determined by software from data provided in a publicly documented and
user-agent supported manner.

Note: Publicly documented here means that documents are available in a free
and accessible manner to the public, including availability on the Web.

Note: User-agent supported here means that user agents and assisted
technologies support the method for extracting and presenting this
information. One of the factors that should be considered before adding a
technology to a baseline would be the availability of affordable user agents
and assisted technologies which support the technology.
