Re: Additional details for next week's WAI testing

Awesome, thanks!

Attached has some input tracked as changes -- including thoughts on which tasks to cut if needed, and additional paths.

Originally Eric planned to have the prototype accessible, but I think he was not able to get it keyboard accessible yet. Thus, it might make sense to postpone the JAWS user and accessibility walkthrough.

This helped us to realize that the test as written in first draft form was way too long even for sighted users, and we have trimmed it down a bit accordingly. I’ve enclosed the second draft of the test. We may test it again tomorrow for a final time estimation and may need to plan to skip a question or two if time is running short and participants are verbose.

As a result of our “pre-test” today, we have decided to focus our testing on Thursday next week on accessibility. On Thursday, we will have a longer, two hour test in the morning with a blind JAWS user who is also a QA analyst, and then in the afternoon we will test with Flora again for two hours so that you all can see and hear her feedback as a sort of guided walkthrough. (The test takes MUCH longer using a screen reader, which is why we extended the time on these sessions to two hours.)

This is a perfect number for a round of qualitative testing, and we will certainly want to test the site again once we are launched. (I can make room in the lab calendar to do this as early as December, and I would like to see us test quarterly or so as we continue to refine the site and add content.) For the next round of testing, I recommend doing a qualitative test over two days, and adding more testers with varying accessibility needs at that time when the site is more complete.
