w3process-ISSUE-103 (PatPolReference): Update Patent Policy reference to new Process Document [Patent Policy] http://www.w3.org/community/w3process/track/issues/103 Raised by: Ian Jacobs On product: Patent Policy The W3C Patent Policy [1] normatively references the 5 February 2004 Process Document. When you visit that document it says: "This document has been superseded." And the reader is redirected to the latest version [3]. Assuming W3C adopts the Proposed Process Document [4], what should we do? Some options: 1) Nothing, because the "latest version" URI will be updated as well. There is precedent for the "do nothing" option since this is what we did when we updated the Process Document in 2005. 2) Revise the Patent Policy in place to update the reference to the Process Document, and leave a note to indicate the change and when we made it. 3) Leave the Patent Policy as-is at its current URI and publish a new one (with the updated reference) at a new URI. Given that we have lived 9 years with option 1, I recommend we reuse that approach.
