Images for products with schema.org

Dear Dan, all:

I just found out that while it is possible to get product image previews from Microformats, e.g.

http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdemostoreprestashop.com%2Fdemo%2Fgooglesnippets%2Fproduct.php%3Fid_product%3D2&view

this does not seem to work from schema.org markup (or GoodRelations), neither in RDFa nor in Microdata syntax.

I was able to produce them for

    http://schema.org/MobileSoftwareApplication

but not for

    http://schema.org/Product

BTW, http://schema.org/MobileSoftwareApplication returns a 404 error, despite being supported by Google.

A simple change of the itemtype from Product to MobileSoftwareApplication brings up the image preview.

Surprisingly, even this worked only if the image URI is HTTPS, not HTTP.

Could you please

1. clarify the correct patterns for adding images to products in Microdata and RDFa syntax and
2. update the Rich Snippet Testing Tool accordingly?

I am not talking about whether such images are actually shown in the live Google system at this point; the problem occurs already at the level of the validator.

By the way, foaf:depiction is also officially supported by Google in the GoodRelations/RDFa recipes; please support this in the same way if possible.

After all, it is strange that the same feature is supported from Microformats but not from Microdata or RDFa.

Also, please double-check the HTTPS requirement.

Best wishes

Martin
