5. Main Topic: European Digital Micro-Credentials

Our new VC EDU Co-Chair, Ildiko Mazar, with the support of this sample credential<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://europa.eu/europass/digital-credentials/viewer/*/shareview/4PSU5ZpCW7ZAKiaQ__;Iw!!EJ3n55FBLexp1rhr!5sjKGti6qKBF0oRTblpJaKkSf0y5gMwFMdF7WbTEjvhPm75V5hSi1lUfCrlRnDqh705hjpgvs40B0aNz_yux6LLurKuMWwqNunE6$> will share some reflections from the Microcredential Schema Mapping exercise.

As Credential Engine's Microcredential Schema Mapping exercise<https://desm.credentialengine.org/mappings-list> is progressing, a few interesting observations can already be made on the similarities and differences between the models already mapped. Generally, I am pleased to see the clear alignment in most areas, but I also noticed, and I thought it interesting, how the European Learning Model (ELM<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://europa.eu/europass/en/node/2128__;!!EJ3n55FBLexp1rhr!5sjKGti6qKBF0oRTblpJaKkSf0y5gMwFMdF7WbTEjvhPm75V5hSi1lUfCrlRnDqh705hjpgvs40B0aNz_yux6LLurKuMW33xfkpy$>) captures learning related data differently, when it comes to the documentation and structuring of learning outcome data, something that is at the heart of the European Council Recommendations on the European Qualifications Framework<https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32017H0615(01)>, and a European approach to micro-credentials<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX*3A32022H0627*2802*29__;JSUl!!EJ3n55FBLexp1rhr!5sjKGti6qKBF0oRTblpJaKkSf0y5gMwFMdF7WbTEjvhPm75V5hSi1lUfCrlRnDqh705hjpgvs40B0aNz_yux6LLurKuMW2Jm3C8d$> for lifelong learning and employability.

While the referencing of skills and competences from standard frameworks and taxonomies is prominent in CTDL and 1EdTech's Open Badges schema as well, the ELM takes a more complex approach to contextualising these concepts within a European Digital Credential<https://europa.eu/europass/elm-browser/documentation/rdf/ap/edc/documentation/edc-generic-no-cv.html>'s metadata. Let's explore and discuss the reasons and benefits of this approach.
