This is surprising to me as every major desktop browser now has basic support (http://caniuse.com/#feat=webvtt), surely that counts as significant review & adoption? It counts as adoption, for sure, but we also need comments on the spec. itself. It’s possible to implement from a spec. that’s not ready for publication (“We implemented this, but the spec. sucks and we basically reverse-engineered what other people were doing to work out how to do it. The examples in Swahili were useless to us, as well. And what’s with the snide asides about chocolate-eaters?”) So, comments on the document are needed right now. To go from CR to PR and beyond, we’ll need interoperating implementations of each feature, so then the multiple independent implementations will be key. But to get going, I have to get the spec. reviewed and deemed good! > > JL > > > > On Wed, Jan 14, 2015 at 1:23 PM, David Singer <singer@apple.com> wrote: > yes, > > the thanksgiving and xmas holidays probably didn’t help. > > if you are aware of people who have reviewed or implemented the spec., it would be helpful if they could say to us that they have done so, even if they have no issues. That’s what I am asking: if you know of review activity that has happened but is not evident to us, get us the evidence! > > (e.g. does anyone know anyone at JWPlayer? To move to CR, I need to show that ‘wide review’ has happened. Though we’ve sent out notes to a number of other standards bodies, I don’t think we have had much (euphemism) actual feedback. Even if the spec. it totally perfect it would help if someone (preferably external to the W3C) said so. > >> > >> If you know people who are implementing VTT or care about it, and could comment, that would be great. > >> > >> (Just a reminder, we’re moving down the Rec. Track while not branching, because a number of places won’t refer to or otherwise use VTT unless it has a stable spec. with some status.) > >> > >> Happy new year! > >> > >> > >> David Singer > >> Manager, Software Standards, Apple Inc. > >> > >> > > David Singer > Manager, Software Standards, Apple Inc. > > > > > > -- > John Luther > VP, Connected Devices > jwplayer.com David Singer Manager, Software Standards, Apple Inc.
