It seems that there were some efforts in the past, like

https://github.com/bocoup/wpt/tree/wptrunner-cdp), to add support for CDP
to WPT and eliminate the "webdriver-in-the-middle" completely. I'm
wondering if it's feasible to try to explore this route again?
