Not arguing in favor of homogenizing at all … only 1) remove things that nobody uses 2) clarify and fix things that could be clarified and fixed, and 3) possibly simplify (not sure it can be done, but would be nice). 

Just like with cleaning up my code base, cleaning up standards makes it much more possible to build and innovate new things. Or my garden, for that matter, it applies to plants, too :-)
