Two weeks ago, Andy Powell posted a four-page draft "Guidelines for assigning identifiers to metadata terms" [1] to the DC-Architecture list [2]. The document is aimed at creators of Dublin Core Application Profiles, but "it is hoped that they are generic enough that they may be useful in the context of other metadata applications as well" (for example, there is a reference to FOAF). There has been some good discussion on the list to sort out terminology problems. These draft guidelines touch on alot of the really basic, plain-vanilla issues of identifying and declaring terms that I was hoping the VM Note could address. To my way of thinking, a VM Note which embraced these guidelines, elaborating on the issues with regard to non-DC vocabularies, would already constitute a significant contribution.
