I have for some time questionned why we ever had animateColor in the first place. The reason I've used it was because I was writing a book explaining SVG, and so it made sense to build some examples. The only mention in that book is "SVG actually contains an <animateColor> tag, though it appears to offer little, if anything, that cannot be done with the animation of the fill, stroke, or flood-color attributes as in the above examples." [1] I see, in the long mozilla discussion from Lars, where dholbert points out some difference between it and straight animate (where attribute is "fill" or "stroke" or the like and values take on color values like "maroon" and "papayawhip"). I think if it went away, I would just change the dozen or so of my pages that use it and would not grieve at its passing, but I agree with Robert Longson that the genie may be out of the bottle. cheers David [1] http://srufaculty.sru.edu/david.dailey/cs427/StateOfArt-Dailey.html#animation_varieties ________________________________________ From: public-svg-ig-request@w3.org [public-svg-ig-request@w3.org] On Behalf Of Lars Gunther [gunther@keryx.se] Sent: Monday, May 31, 2010 5:49 AM To: SVG IG List Subject: AnimateColor Hi I thought this comment by ROC could be of interest to the group: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=436296#c14 Do you guys want animateColor or not? -- Lars Gunther http://keryx.se/ http://twitter.com/itpastorn/ http://itpastorn.blogspot.com/
