RE: SSML support isn't implemented, remove it from spec?

Hi,

I have been very involved in the creation of most standards related to Voice Browsing (VoiceXML, SSML, SRGS, PLS, EMMA, CCXML, etc)

SSML for TTS, like SRGS for ASR, was to control TTS in a *standard way*. It was an help to the goal of Voice Browsing to allow different vendors to interoperate.

Web Speech API is a different arena, but removing SSML support will remove a *standard way* to control or act on TTS rendering. Moreover it will create frictions to transition from Voice Browsing world to a new environment.

All the above are my personal opinions.

Philip Jägenstedt,

I would like for the Web Speech API to include support for SSML. I'm also for improving upon the SpeechSynthesis and SpeechSynthesisUtterance interfaces as needed.

This mailing list was idle for a while. We might want to issue new calls for participation before making inferences based on lack of response.

Best regards,

Pointing to it here also so that it gets wider attention. Does anybody plan to implement the SSML bits of the spec?

Thanks!
