You're right, initially I was concerned about mixing foreign databases into 
our URL space (thereby confusing people), but using a separate subdomain 
that is clearly some kind of resolver might address this concern.

The other nice feature of LSIDs is the standard way in which version 
numbers are handled, I'm not sure how to do that with a URL? Suggestions 
are welcome!
