Hello all, My name is Sean Martin. I am a senior technical staff member in a technology group in Cambridge, MA and I will represent IBM in this SIG. I lead a team of developers that produced the reference implementation of the OMG's Life Science Identifier (LSID) standard and I was one of the authors of that specification. The current focus of my team is the marriage of Semantic Web concepts, standards and technologies with more traditional middleware and GRID technologies. The team is creating the Semantic Layered Research Platform (SLRP) a prototype framework on which semantically aware collaborative applications will be written for researchers. This work includes researching RDF use in distributed/replicated storage, query & search, data federation, user interfaces, annotation and workflows. It is intended that the Center for a Virtual Tumor (CViT - http://www.cvit.org/ ) be one of the early beneficiaries of this effort. Of enormous interest to me is the creation of standard ontology's and metadata vocabularies for health care and life sciences as the lack of these is a major barrier to data integration and interoperability. Kindest regards, Sean --- Sean Martin Advanced Internet Technology Group IBM Corp Cambridge, MA sjmm@us.ibm.com
