For what it's worth and because it's relevant to this thread, I made a similar proposal a few months ago: https://github.com/schemaorg/schemaorg/issues/1051 The gist is much the same as Jan's comments above -- a way to track investments (et al.), along with more specific roles/associations with an Organization, such as an InvestorRole, BoardMemberRole, AdvisorRole, etc... I've used extended vocabulary(ies) locally as a workaround, but it felt like it was more generally useful enough to make it into the schema.org vocabulary as a first-class citizen.
