The following answers have been successfully submitted to 'Proposed changes to the Security Interest Group charter' (Advisory Committee) for Mozilla Foundation by Tantek Çelik. The reviewer's organization suggests changes to this Charter, and only supports the proposal if the changes are adopted [Formal Objection]. Additional comments about the proposal: In general Mozilla supports creating a Security Interest Group, and this revised Charter is quite good. However, we agree with concerns raised by others, and suggest (not a Formal Objection) the following changes in the charter accordingly to address these concerns raised by multiple AC reps: * W3C Process input and suggestions should go to the Process CG instead of the AB (like it said in the prior proposed Security Interest Group charter): https://github.com/w3c/charter-drafts/pull/613 * typos should be fixed: https://github.com/w3c/charter-drafts/pull/610 * W3C Mission’s aspects should be mentioned rather than quoted, since the W3C Mission is currently being iterated, and a snapshot quote SHOULD NOT be frozen in a Group Charter: see proposed changes on this PR: https://github.com/w3c/charter-drafts/pull/609#pullrequestreview-2379185442 * Editorial markup improvements: https://github.com/w3c/charter-drafts/pull/611 In addition, we are strongly concerned with (Formal Objection): * Scope section explicitly stating that the ”SING incubates standards work …” which contradicts the "Out of scope" section which essentially says incubation will be "handed over to an appropriate W3C … Group". * IGs MUST NOT include incubation in their Scope, because in the context of W3C, "incubate" or "incubation" has technical standards work implications which only CGs and WGs are properly setup (IPR) to do. * We have provided suggested replacement text using the more abstract "explores" and limiting the seemingly open ended "initiating the work" to one specific example "developing tests": https://github.com/w3c/charter-drafts/pull/614 — we are ok with edits to this PR and its replacement wording as long as incubates/incubation is dropped from the in-scope section. Thank you for your consideration of these proposed refinements. Answers to this questionnaire can be set and changed at https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/33280/sing-tmw/ until 2024-10-19.
