The utility of the Clear Key CDM is being able to have something independently implementable to exercise the EME API with so that you can write a test suite using Clear Key to show two independent interoperable implementations of the EME API for the purposes of the W3C Process to let the EME spec exit the Candidate Recommendation stage. As for purported non-testing use cases of Clear Key, a simpler alternative solution for those use cases was presented (http://html5.org/tools/web-apps-tracker?from=7011&to=7012). That the simpler alternative solution got no traction is an indication that the purported use cases of Clear Key have no real demand. -- Henri Sivonen hsivonen@hsivonen.fi http://hsivonen.iki.fi/
