Section 2 of the spec contains the following definitions:
[Definition: An item is either an atomic value or a node.]
[Definition: The term XDM instance is used, synonymously with the term value,
to denote an unconstrained sequence of nodes and/or atomic values in the data
model.]
Both of these definitions should also include function items.
