I think you may have misunderstood me.  What I'm suggesting is reading data at
a specified URL as binary data.

e.g. binary-data('http://www.w3.org/Icons/w3c_main')

As far as I am aware, the only functions which read external data are fn:doc,
fn:collection and fn:unparsed-text.
