Summary: [FT] Description of FTStemOption
Product: XPath / XQuery / XSLT
Version: Working drafts
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: Full Text
AssignedTo: jim.melton@acm.org
ReportedBy: holstege@mathling.com
QAContact: public-qt-comments@w3.org
== Section 3.2.3 (FTStemOption)
Second paragraph:
<blockquote>
FTStemOption influences the way FTWords is applied. It produces a disjunction
of the query tokens by expanding the tokens into the list of tokens that share
the same stem. By definition, the query tokens are included in that
disjunction.
</blockquote>
This is a very prescriptive way to describe stemming, and not necessarily what
implementations will do. Further, if we mean stemming to explain how query
tokens are produced, the final sentence ("by definition") is at best
meaningless, and more likely just wrong.
Proposal: Drop the paragraph entirely.
