Ok. I neither have read these parts thoroughly, but after a quick look at the 
following link it seems like there's a type named "anyAtomicType" in the 
http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema namespace:

http://www.w3.org/TR/2006/WD-xmlschema11-2-20060116/datatypes.html#anyAtomicType-def

Seems to be the same with for example dayTimeDuration: 
http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema11-2/datatypes.html#dayTimeDuration

I CC'd Ashok Malhotra, he's editor on the WXS 1.1 part 2 spec as well as F & 
O. Perhaps he can provide an informative comment.
