In fact the "that item" refers back to "for each item in the population" in the
previous paragraph, but the text in between has grown in length as a result of
a clarification (sic) added in the latest draft. I think the solution is to
re-establish context at the start of the new paragraph: change "The expression
contained in..." to read "When calculating the grouping keys for an item in the
population, the expression contained in..."
In the hope that this further clarification solves the problem, I am marking
the bug fixed and closed. Please reopen it if you feel the urge.
