I think the solution is to re-establish context at the start of the new paragraph: change "The expression contained in..." to read "When calculating the grouping keys for an item in the population, the expression contained in..." In the hope that this further clarification solves the problem, I am marking the bug fixed and closed. Please reopen it if you feel the urge.
