RE: Sensitivity training

Good discussion. I too follow the topic closely but my role with the W3C is more as a member versus leader. Another angle is Allyship with action. I see that behavior by many leaders and members in the W3C leadership and community. Suggest reviewing the Allyship concept to see if it could be used. One person at a time can make a difference on a W3C member experience. Impower your leadership and community may achieve what your looking for in a positive way?

While I am supportive of the idea in general, I think we need to come up with a better name for it. It is true that many organizations offer “sensitivity training” to their employees but from what I’ve heard (no personal experience with it!) – this is often “offered” as a punitive action, when someone has done/said something improper.
Since our intentions are purely educational, maybe we need to come up with a different name, but I don’t have anything to propose off the top of my head.

Thanks,
Vlad

Hello PWE,

Through conversations I've had with other chairs, and through my time
volunteering for the chair buddy programme [1], I've frequently heard
people say they are unsure of the best ways to include everyone in their
group - the preferred terms to use, the best way to make people feel
welcome etc.

It's common practice for organisations to offer "sensitivity" training
to help employees with this, and I think it would be wonderful if W3C
could offer something of the sort to chairs. It has previously offered
chair training on a range of different subjects [2].

Forgive me if this idea has already been suggested, although I lurk in
the PWE, I don't participate actively and so may have missed it if it
came up before.

Léonie
