Re: [External] Thanks for agreeing to review the RFPs

Not sure where we are on the proposed schedule holding true for this, but here are some comments from an internal Ingram review:

  * Concern with a python (or any non-java) implementation, specifically around the disruption that will cause in changes to existing workflows. This will be especially true for smaller platforms that use the current version, or some version that they have ‘modified’ for their use.
  * Concerned about timelines that go beyond the short term, and how to align expectations and funding for such an activity. There is a preference for clearly defined deliverables on a maintenance release targeted for 3.2.
  * Concern about proposals that have an hourly charge, and how governance would be applied to such an arrangement.
  * Critical importance is given to insuring that “backwards compatible” statements are factual, and have gravitas in the implementation. The current scenario requires us to maintain multiple JAR files, and map which customer needs which JAR to be used.
  * Concern about people not taking this seriously. Need to emphasize coordination with the EPUB roadmap conversation, and a strategic push to coordinate 1) EPUB 3.2, 2)EPUBCheck new version, and 3)Getting people off anything earlier than EPUB 3.2

I am happy to help you arrange a call if you would like to arrange any discussions amongst yourselves. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Publishing Steering Committee.

All the best,
Tzviya
