Dear Advisory Committee Representative,
Chairs,

The Director is pleased to announce the approval of the Accessible Rich
Internet Applications Working Group charter:
   http://www.w3.org/2015/10/aria-charter

The new Working Group, chartered until 31 July 2018, is one of two split
from the Protocols and Formats Working Group. The ARIA Working Group will
continue to develop technology to enhance accessibility of Web content to
people with disabilities, primarily the WAI-ARIA suite of specifications
and technology-specific Accessibility API Mappings. In addition, the ARIA
Working Group, in collaboration with an expected Community Group, will
take on the User Context deliverable formerly developed by the Independent
User Interface (IndieUI) Working Group.

Use this form to join the group; the form will also instruct you how to
nominate participants:
   http://www.w3.org/2004/01/pp-impl/83726/join

Participants in the Protocols and Formats Working Group who wish to
continue work on WAI-ARIA also must join this group before the PFWG
charter extension expires on December 3, 2015:
   https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-ac-members/2015OctDec/0019.html

Participants in the former IndieUI Working Group who wish to continue work
on User Context should also join this group, though they may defer this if
the work is initially done in a Community Group.

The Working Group chair is Rich Schwerdtfeger (IBM). The Team Contact is
Michael Cooper for 0.25 FTE.

More information about the Working Group can be found at:
   http://www.w3.org/WAI/ARIA/

For help with the process of joining ARIA or transitioning from other
groups, contact Michael Cooper <cooper@w3.org>.

Results of Call for Review
------

We called for review on 2 July 2015:
   https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-ac-members/2015JulSep/0002.html

Thanks to the 37 Members who provided input:
   https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/33280/ariawg2015/results

31 reviewers suggested that the group be approved as is, 4 suggested
changes, and there were 2 Formal Objections.

In response to comments and objections, the charter was simplified,
unmeasurable success criteria removed, and the decision policy clarified.
In addition, the updated charter removed a note about the ARIA and APA
Working Groups potentially recombining.

A detailed Disposition of Comments is available:
