48-Hour Call for Consensus (CfC): Advance Longdesc to PR

Colleagues:

This is a Call for Consensus (CfC) to the Protocols and Formats Working Group
(PFWG) requesting approval to advance the HTML 5 Image Description Extension
specification to Proposed Recommendation (PR status. The PR draft is available
at:

http://www.w3.org/2014/09/04-PR-html-longdesc/

An Implementation Report for this specification showing that it meets
W3C recommendation requirements is available at:

http://w3c.github.io/test-results/html-longdesc/cr-report.html

Edits to the CR draft of this specification were made in response to
implementer comments received during CR, and are documented at:

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-a11y/2014Sep/0000.html
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-a11y/2014Sep/0011.html

A concurrent CfC will be ongoing in the HTML-WG.

Progress concluding the CR process on this specification was delayed pending the Director's decision as per:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-a11y/2014Sep/0024.html

Now that the Director has issued a decision on the Formal Objection
filed against this specification, that objection no longer serves as a
block against progress for this specification.

The Director's decision is available at:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-a11y/2014Oct/0113.html

The HTML-A11Y Task Force has concluded its CfC on this question favorably as
documented at:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html

ACTION TO TAKE

According to agreed PFWG Consensus Procedures, this CfC is now open for
objection, comment, as well as statements of support via email. Silence will be
interpreted as support, though messages of support are certainly welcome.

If you object to this proposed action, or have comments concerning this
proposal, please respond by replying on list to this message no later than
23:59 PM (Midnight) Boston Time, Thursday 6 November.

Please note that any objections based on points covered by the
Director's decision will be ignored. Anyone with complaints against the
Director's decision should, rather, direct their comments to the
Director's office directly.
