Dear Web Payments Working Group participants, As a result of some general review of W3C registry practices, one of our W3C colleagues reviewed our Card Network Identifier registry: https://www.w3.org/Payments/card-network-ids As a result of that review I have already made one change: I added corporate names next to the identifier strings. I also propose to include the following text to help readers understand that the mapping of identifiers to BIN ranges is not maintained by W3C, and we are relying on industry stakeholders to manage the mapping. Here is the proposed text: ==== <p>Each identifier is meant to correspond to a “<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payment_card_number”>BIN range</a>.” The assignment of these ranges is managed outside of W3C. W3C provides this registry of identifiers as a convenience and relies on industry practices to correctly map these identifiers to BIN ranges.</p> ==== I also propose to delete the section on "Information Useful to Implementers.” That information was primarily for people building payment apps that support Basic Card, but we have not in practice received any information and I believe that app providers can find the information they need through other means.
