The following is not a standard or even a standard in progress, it is an early proposal for making NFC more useful: https://github.com/w3c/web-nfc/issues/140#issuecomment-404717371 Note: this idea builds on using high-level Web protocols at the POS rather than low-level, card-oriented, 7816-based protocols such as EMV. This may sound "revolutionary" but it is not; AFAIK none of the great Chinese payment systems out there actually use EMV. The "new" thing here is replacing QR with NFC in order to create a better user experience as well as improving security for a set of very popular authentication applications that currently suffer from a phishing vulnerability. This posting is also meant to serve as a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defensive_publication since the core idea in this GitHub issue may indeed be novel. thanx, Anders
