3rd GlobaLex Workshop on Lexicography and Neology - Focus on Corona-related Neologisms - Call for Papers
The third iteration of Globalex Workshop on Lexicography and Neology (GWLN) will be held online in conjunction with the AUSTRALEX Conference 2021, on September 1.
GWLN 2021 is supported by Globalex - the Global Alliance for Lexicography - and will follow on the two GWLN events organized in conjunction with the DSNA 2019 and EURALEX 2020/2021 conferences.
The focus of GWLN 2021 is on neologisms arising in relation to the Corona pandemic. We invite papers discussing issues related to the detection of such neologisms - including new words, new meanings of existing words, and new multiword units - and their representation in lexicography and dictionaries. Our aim is to offer cross-world views on lexicographic detection and representation of Corona-driven neologisms for different languages in general and Australasian ones in particular.
Challenges regarding Corona neologisms and lexicography arising for any contemporary language include, but are not limited to:
* how to find Corona neologisms (corpus analysis and editorial means of identification, evaluation of data, e.g. blogs and chats)
* how to explain meaning with/without encyclopedic information, and how to use illustrations and audio-visual media
* how dictionary users can help with finding and informing about Corona neologisms
* to what extent does a language borrow Corona neologisms from other languages (and which ones) and/or does the language in question use word formation to enlarge the Corona-related vocabulary
Abstracts including 500-1,000 words should be submitted by February 1, 2021 to gwln2021@ids-mannheim.de<mailto:gwln2021@ids-mannheim.de> and will be reviewed by the workshop organizers and members of the Australex Scientific Committee. Notification on acceptance will be made by March 15, 2021.
Participation in the workshop is free.
