Re: WordNet modelling in Lemon and SKOS

Firstly, can I remind everyone of R3 in our general requirements:

http://www.w3.org/community/ontolex/wiki/Specification_of_Requirements

It explicitly states that we will use "semantics by *reference*," it makes
sense therefore that the last link to the ontology from the lexicon is
called "reference"!

Secondly, examples using the existing lemon vocabulary such as here
http://www.w3.org/community/ontolex/wiki/IFLA are fine and should continue
to use the existing property names.

As for the discussion of Sinn/Bedeutung, IMHO it is fine to consider the
ontology entity as at least a proxy for the reference (as in reality we are
shuffling bits around a computer, we cannot refer to the true referent as
Philipp points out), it is for me clearly an

As a motivating example, consider the following two class: "greatest
natural number" and "yetis". From an ontological point of view they are
equivalent classes (as they are both empty sets). However, it is clear that
yetis have fur but greatest natural numbers do not. This is captured by the
distinction between intensional Meaning and extensional Reference, i.e.,
the meanings of these words are distinct, the references are not.

This correlates with the intuition that

Yeti ≡ GreatestNaturalNumber ≡ owl:Nothing

But not

:yeti skos:exactMatch :greatestNaturalNumber
