My previous email from my other address bounced so apologies if this is a duplicate... There are currently 38 A and AA SCs in WCAG 2. I think reasonably speaking, the WCAG group can't entertain a 2.1 with more than 12 or so new SCs at level A and AA, maybe up to 16 if we REALLY push it. That is from ALL TFs. Yesterday we presented quite successfully to the WCAG group. We presented 14 SC, some of which are still just internal proposals to the Mobile TF rather than consensus SCs... there is concern among some members about the number of new SCs we are putting forward when combined with other TF SC proposals. I would like to make a suggestion that we pair down the number of SCs we propose. Specifically, the SCs requiring Pointer functionality. Patrick made the important comment that their inclusion is more for "completeness" than to overcome and real barriers that users with disabilities currently encounter on the web. We really only have theoretical barriers for those SCs right now. Although I appreciate that rational of wanting to have a consistency between keyboard and pointer requirements in WCAG, and also appreciate that the first choice would have been an integration of Pointer and Keyboard SCs using a ore abstract SC at 2.1.1 and 2.1.2, so there wasn't a proliferation of SCs, I think the confusion about the number of SCs we are proposing has caused some in the WCAG group and staff to go back to considering a separate extension for mobile which I feel would be a major step backwards. My proposal is that we finalize our new SC proposals at these: M2: Target Size M5: Touch with Assistive Technology M7: No Focus Trap M8: (No) accidental activation M9: Pointer inputs with additional sensors (was: Advanced pointer input) M10: Device sensors (was: Device inputs) M11: Speech Input M12: Single key shortcut alternative M13: Orientation M14: Non-interference of AT And explore further M6: Input-agnostic (was: Additional inputs reliant on assistive technologies) I'm proposing we drop for WCAG Version 2.1 the following: M1: Pointer M3: Pointer gestures M4: Keyboard with AT (that remaps key input) This will allow us to focus and develop the other SCs in our short time remaining.
