If the goal is to avoid maintaining the two models forever, then all we can do is make the Futures version available as soon as possible and monitor usage of the non-Futures version, removing the non-Futures version as soon as its usage is acceptably low. In this case, it seems to me that the cost of maintaining the non-Futures version is pretty low, so this doesn't seem all that high priority to me.
