Dear James, The MAWG has sent an email to you on Nov 4th. We have no response from you. As mentionned during the phone call we have added WebM container format into the Ontology spec. It mentions VP8. http://dev.w3.org/2008/video/mediaann/mediaont-1.0/mediaont-1.0.html#d0e13162 We must now move forward and publish our second last Call. Please let us know ASAP that you are OK with our resolution for both LC Comment -2393 and LC Comment -2395. Best, Thierry Dear James, thanks for calling in today, it was very useful to discuss this issue on the phone. To summarise, the media ontology defines a core set of properties (see [1] in the LC version), and not of codes. Most of these are descriptive, as well as a few general technical properties. We list some metadata formats (not codecs) as formats in scope, and we define mappings for these formats to our ontology. Currently, the API is for reading this metadata only. None of our current use cases (see [2] for the use case and requirements document) requires accessing the audiovisual content, thus data access is considered out of scope. We agree that container formats (such as Ogg) contain metadata -- irrespective of the codec used for the essence inside -- and thus have added mappings tables for those. We tried to keep the technical metadata properties to the minimum required by our use cases, not including properties that are specific to certain media types of codecs. As we said in the phone call today, we do not plan to include speex and VP8, as we have not included any other codecs that might be relevant (e.g. MPEG-2), but only metadata formats and containers. However, if you think, that the mapping for metadata properties from Ogg with speex to our ontology is different than what is currently listed in the Ogg table, please send us these mappings and we will include them. Also, as mentioned by Daniel, there might be a possibility to define additional use cases for a future version of the ontology next year. Please let us know until the end of the week, if you approve this resolution of your comment.
