Action Points

Dear participants in the 2015 Mongolian Font Forum,

I think we are finished with the main task at hand - that of a "hoped for outcome would be a fully standardised set of glyph allocations for use with free variation selectors in Unicode." I think we are pretty close with the NP column on the Font Comparator Site. Each of us have had to give and take. Some of the assignments are idiosyncratic and not exactly what we would have liked had we done it ourselves. But we have had our discussion. We have general agreement. Now we can move ahead with our decisions helping other young font developers with a more stable platform from which to build. Tools and utilities will be able to smooth over the rough ground.

Here are the action points that I see and suggestions for follow-through ...

1.) Follow-up on NNBSP changes - (RICHARD ISHIDA?)

2.) Decisions on U+1807, U+180A, U+1885, U+1886 - IN PROCESS (GREG)

3.) Contact Adobe about problem with Acrobat dropping NNBSP upon Cut & Paste - IN PROCESS (JIRIMUTU?)

4.) Font Comparator site up to date - DONE by Richard Ishida

5.) All pertinent documents added to site (current is up to Aug 15, 2015) - IN PROCESS (GREG - unless someone else volunteers)

6.) DS00, DS01, DS02, DS04, DS05 up to date and added to site - IN PROCESS (GREG)

7.) Paper to the UTC presenting three different options of handling the FVS positions (U+1820, U+1828, U+182C, U+182D, U+1835, U+1836) in contention (leave as is, delete old/add new, implement with both old/new together) - IN PROCESS (GREG)

8.) Others ?? please note

I would like to get some feedback from Dr. Quejingzhabu and am hoping to see him later this month. He will not doubt be enthused to hear about the NNBSP refinement as well as the progress we have made in refining the encoding. Assuming that I do manage to see him in Hohot, I will report this back to the group in December.

We would be greatly remiss if we did not recognize Mr Richard Ishida for his great contribution in putting together the Font Comparator Site as well as maintaining it. This was his project from beginning to end. He invited all of us to join. He did the mods to the table in the background. He pushed us on. A big round of applause from around the world to Richard Ishida !!

And thanks to each of you for your contributions big and small, those who did not say anything, but encouraged us by your presence on the list. I hope we have all learned some good things from each other about the functioning of the vertical Mongolian script. I know that I learned a lot in the process.

OK, I will plan to report back in December with some thoughts from the Inner Mongolia University and Dr. Quejingzhabu. We are also still trying to reach Mr. Jijigsuren Nergui of Ulaanbaatar Standards Board as per Deborah Anderson's suggestion. If anyone else is acquainted with him (Jargal ??), please let me know. We do want to hear from the Ulaanbaatar side more also.

Greg
