Bin Sensei’s desire for R-J spacing to be fixed is very interesting, and happily can be easily supported by restricting the range for adjustments while other mojikumi and Latin justification spacing is allowed to compensate. It also points to a need to differentiate Roman word space adjustments in justification from the spacing between R-J, which means U+0020 is absolutely not what you would use for the latter.

I want to make our engine support this fixed R-J space, and see how well it works.

和欧間のスペースを固定するか、しないか、というAll or Nothingの選択しかないわけではなく、必要なら、和欧間のスペースがとりうる範囲を制約することも可能なのではないでしょうか。(明示的に固定するオプションもまたありうるかもしれませんが)。

そう考える理由は、既に存在する調整可能な箇所の数を減らすことには、スペーシングの最適化に利用できる選択肢が減ってしまうため、慎重になる必要があると考えるからです。

Natは違う考えを持っているかもしれませんが。

Nat, what do you think? I think we should be careful in reducing the number of existing spaces which have already been defined to be adjustable for the purpose of justification, because it could result in reduced possibility of spacing optimization.
