Hi everyone, I had the action item "Yves to rewrite sec. 5.4" to do (http://www.w3.org/2007/01/10-i18nits-minutes.html#action08) It's actually just a re-wording of the numbered list. We currently have: ----- "The following precedence order is defined for selections of ITS information in various positions (the first item in the list has the highest precedence): 1- Implicit local selection in documents (ITS local attributes on a specific element) 2- Global selections in documents (using a rules element) 3- Global selections in an external file (using a rules element), linked via the XLink href attribute or a different mechanism 4- Selections via defaults for data categories, see Section 6.1: Position, Defaults, Inheritance and Overriding of Data Categories" ----- I think the #3 is incorrect as it puts the linked rules in the same category as the external rules. Linked rules should be treated just like rules inside the document, as if they were the first rules in the <rules> element where they are called. I propose to change the bullets #2 and #3 as this: ----- 2- Global selections in documents (using a rules element): 2.a- Any rules inside the rules element 2.b- Any rules linked via the XLink href attribute 3- Global selections in an external file (using a rules element), linked via a tool-specific mechanism ----- An example of the distinction between 2.a and 2.b is in one of our test file: http://www.w3.org/International/its/tests/inputdata/LocNote2.xml The linked rules define a 'description' note for all @alt attributes Then a rule inside the <rules> element where the link is overrides this for one specific @alt with a 'alert' note. Cheers, -yves
