Hi Yves, Thanks for working on the action item. Here's some feedback: 1. I could imagine that idValue is needed/could be used without any relationship to the translate data category. As such, you could aim for a completely new data category. Possible implementation <its:idRule selector="//source/@name"/> 2. Would it make sense to mention that the new mechanism only is needed in cases where the best practice http://www.w3.org/TR/xml-i18n-bp/#AuthUniqueID was not taken into account? 3. Presumably, a use case for ids in translation processes would help to better understand the requirement. 4. Possibly, a reference back to http://esw.w3.org/topic/its0505ReqUniqueID would be valuable. You can see the new text here: http://www.w3.org/International/its/wiki/IssuesAndProposedFeatures#Proposal:_idValue In short: The value of idValue would still be an XPath expression but allow more than pointing to a node. It would allow to use any XPath string function and return a string that is the value. This allows to build unique ID value where the XML document provides only ID for a higher level of granularity. Cheers, -yves
