Erhua, bopomofo, pinyin, etc, might requires more general description and solution. In classical books (like classical musical books), contemporary literature on Chinese language study and scientific coursebooks (like in chemistry), we often observe subscripts or ruby-like characters (either in hanzi or other scripts) laid on corners, left/right side of or above one single Chinese character or a few characters.
