Character “儿” used in *erhuayin* is sometimes presented in subscript form in formal publications in China mainland, especially in dictionaries and educational publications. Special attention are needed for subscripts in Chinese layout, as well as formulae and Hanzi mixed text.

表示儿化音的汉字“儿”在中国大陆的正规出版物中时常以下标形式排版，特别是字典和教育出版物。例如《现代汉语词典》就采取了这样一种排版方式处理儿化音中的“儿”字，这不应简单认为是辞书凡例。希望《中文排版需求》可以在后续版本中考虑“以下标排版”的各种特殊情形：除教育用途排版出现的种种情形之外，还应包括理工科公式与汉字混排的部分（日文排版需求和韩文排版需求都有相关章节）。
