The issue with this is that uncertainty in the patent landscape can never be removed. There are still lawsuits surrounding IP related to H.264 that is not part of their patent pool. This move should be looked up as it is - improving the stance of VP8 with regards to patent uncertainties. The fact that MPEG-LA has, through this action, moved away from forming a patent pool for VP8 is the strongest indicator that outstanding patent concerns for VP8 are minimal, at best, and not worth enforcing. -- Libre Video http://librevideo.org
