As far as I can tell from today's HTML-A11Y-TF Text Sub Team minutes
[1], W3C WAI PF appear to be OK with allowing ARIA to reference
@hidden content and see it as a "nice to have" feature, "orthogonal to

I've now removed all references to longdesc from the CP [2]. Can the
HTMLWG reach an amicable consensus on ISSUE-204 without anyone having
to spend any more time [3] on writing CPs?
