I've now made the spec do the following except with the third bullet point replaced with: * Made the summary="" attribute conforming but made with a warning from conformance checkers that the attribute is obsolete. I've replaced downplayed errors with conforming features that trigger warnings. I've also taken the opportunity to trim the list of features that trigger this behaviour, so that we keep it to a minimum. > I don't really like spec-prescribed warnings, either, because I fear > that if we start doing normative warnings, people start wanting to make > failures to adhere to their code style aesthetics as normative warnings > when the discussion won't affect valid/invalid. I intend to avoid adding features to this list. We should definitely not add anything syntax-related to the list other than the old DOCTYPEs.
