Hello chairs,
The CSS WG decided that the CSS Mobile Profile, written in collaboration
with CDF and OMA, is now ready for "last call." I will request a
publication slot from the webmaster within a few days.
We would like to ask specifically the CDF, SVG, HTML, WAI PF, WebAPI and
WAF WGs for their review.
The deadline for comments would be four weeks after publication, which
takes us to around Nov 13, i.e., right after TPAC. Is that OK with
everybody?
The current, internal version and the latest public versions are:
http://www.w3.org/Style/Group/css3-src/css-mobile
http://www.w3.org/TR/2006/WD-css-mobile-20061208
(Sorry, HTML WG, you can't see first of these yet.)
Quoting from the document:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Abstract
This specification defines in general a subset of CSS 2.1 [CSS21] that
is to be considered a baseline for interoperability between
implementations of CSS on constrained devices (e.g. mobile phones). Its
intent is not to produce a profile of CSS incompatible with the
complete specification, but rather to ensure that implementations that
due to platform limitations cannot support the entire specification
implement a common subset that is interoperable not only amongst
constrained implementations but also with complete ones. Additionally,
this specification aligns itself as much as possible with the OMA's
Wireless CSS 1.1 [WCSS11] specification.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The "as much as possible" in the last line means in practice that
WCSS1.1 is equivalent to the CSS Mobile Profile + WICD1 Mobile, because
WCSS1.1 requires support for the XML Style Sheet PI, while in the W3C
version that requirement is part of the WICD spec, not the CSS one.
Also noteworthy is that the Mobile Profile can't become CR at this
moment, because it depends on "marquee" properties in the CSS Box
Module, which is still in WD. (We'll do our best to make that LC, too.)
For the CSS WG,
Bert
